Only Sunrisers Hyderabad had a worse loss than Delhi Capitals after the first round of matches for each time and that tells a lot. Gujarat on the other hand have been impressive in their season opener which puts them as favourites here. I am putting my money on Gujarat Titans to win.

Last season saw the Titans face Delhi Capitals once, a match that Gujarat went on to win by 14 runs. Shubman Gill’s 84 lifted the Titans to 171/6 and the Capitals were restricted to 157/9. Lockie Ferguson took 4/28 while Mohammed Shami took 2/30.

All eyes were on the team composition when Delhi Capitals took the field against the Super Giants in Lucknow. Poor fielding and many catch drops saw them concede 193/6 with only Khaleel Ahmed and Chetan Sakariya taking two wickets each.

The chase was never on, as the Capitals struggled to stay in touch with the rising run-rate. David Warner’s painstakingly slow 56 off 48 was the only solace as they limped to 143/9.

The heavy loss took a toll on the run-rate but as it’s still early days, the Capitals would be more worried about results.

Gujarat Titans Form

The Titans started with a rousing five-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings to start their defence on a high. Rashid Khan’s 2/26 and Mohammed Shami’s 2/29 helped put the brakes as the Super Kings were restricted to 178/7.

The chase was shepherded by Shubman Gill’s 63 off 36 balls although they needed a late Rashid Khan cameo (10 off 3) to ace the total. In the end, they had all the bases covered.

The lone sore point from that win for the Titans was losing Kane Williamson to an injury. The Kiwi batter is now out of the IPL 2023 tournament.

David Miller has joined the team and the South African batter could be slotted straight away. With Sai Sudharsan coming in as an impact player, the Titans are looking well settled.
