It is not an ideal situation to be in, as the Delhi Capitals continue to move from one defeat to another. Yet, there is something about the venue that gives them a chance to put it across Kolkata Knight Riders. I am going aggressive with my pick and backing Delhi Capitals to win here.
- Delhi Capitals have won 7 of their last 10 matches against Kolkata Knight Riders (IPL)
- Delhi Capitals have won 3 of their last 4 matches against Kolkata Knight Riders at this venue (IPL)
- Delhi Capitals have conceded the highest opening partnership of the match in their last 3 matches (IPL)
- Kolkata Knight Riders have conceded the most powerplay runs in their last 5 matches (IPL)
- Kolkata Knight Riders have scored the highest opening partnership in 5 of their last 8 matches against Delhi Capitals at this venue (IPL)
Head to Head
This has been one of the closely fought fixtures in the IPL history with 15 wins for Delhi and 16 wins for Kolkata in the 31 matches so far. In the recent times though, it is Delhi who had an upper hand winning seven of their last ten against Kolkata.
That included winning both the matches last season with the Capitals winning the first encounter by 44 runs before trumping in the second by four wickets.
Delhi Capitals Form
Delhi Capitals are rock bottom of the standings with no points and five losses in the season so far. That included two losses here, to Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians – both coming by a margin of six wickets.
Captain David Warner has been their leading light with the bat with 228 runs, although his SR of 116.92 is pegging them back. Bowlers have struggled to take wickets and only Kuldeep Yadav & Mukesh Kumar have four scalps each.
There’s never a better time to win for the Capitals than now as they look to get on the points board. A change at the top of the board could change things for them.
Delhi Capitals Team News
A struggling Prithvi Shaw could be shunted out of the playing XI as Sarfaraz Khan waits in the wings. Mitchell Marsh at three hasn’t covered himself in glory either, with Rilee Rossouw waiting in the wings to replace him.
Kolkata Knight Riders Form
Kolkata Knight Riders have four points from five matches with two wins over Bangalore and Gujarat. They are coming off successive losses though, to Hyderabad and Mumbai.
The batting duties have been shared all around with five Kolkata batters aggregating 100+ runs so far, led by Venkatesh Iyer (234) and Rinku Singh (174). Bowling charts are led by the three mystery spinners Sunil Narine (six), Varun Chakaravarthy (seven), and Suyash Sharma (six).
Despite the firepower they boast, Kolkata have been struggling to have good starts with a misfiring Jagadeesan at the top, while Andre Russell has been missing in action.
Kolkata Knight Riders Team News
Jason Roy has been waiting in the wings for too long and could fancy a game in place of Rahmanullah Gurbaz. David Wiese could be an option if they want to replace Lockie Ferguson.

Verdict
It is tough to see how Delhi Capitals can improve overnight to be a contender to win against Kolkata Knight Riders, but that is exactly what they have to do. They are almost in a do-or-die situation and usually that means improvement. I am sticking my neck out and backing the Capitals to cut out their losses and pick their first win of the season.
