After Chennai’s loss on Sunday, Gujarat can confirm their qualification in the top-two with one more win from the last two matches. Sunrisers Hyderabad are hanging on to their very slim chances by the edge of their coat tails. The Titans could once again be dominating the early exchanges and I’m backing Gujarat to post the highest powerplay score.

The teams met twice in the competition history, sharing the results. Sunrisers Hyderabad have won by six wickets while Gujarat Titans won by five wickets, both the results happened in Mumbai.

It was a 27-run loss to Mumbai Indians where the Titans were last seen. The defeat margin could have been much more, but for Rashid Khan’s heroics with the bat – 79* off 32 balls to take them from 103/8 to 191/8.

That remains the strength of Gujarat as they keep finding leaders whenever they are in trouble. Shubman Gill (475 runs) has been a consistent run-getter while Rashid Khan (23) and Mohammed Shami (19) have been leading with the ball.

With not many injury concerns, the only challenge ahead of Gujarat is whether to rotate the squad before playoffs or continue with the winning combination.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Form

Sunrisers Hyderabad are 9th in the table with eight points from 11 matches. Including this match, if they win their remaining three, that would take them to 14 and with some help, into the play-offs.

Yet, their chances look very bleak. They were beaten by Lucknow Super Giants by seven wickets in a home match last Saturday which they had no business to lose. A 31-run 16th over killed Hyderabad’s chances as they lost a golden opportunity to get two points.

That remains the main grouse for the Sunrisers as they struggled to be consistent throughout the season. No batter has scored more than Heinrich Klaasen (262) while only Mayank Markande (12) has taken double-digit wickets.
