Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru

In an early-season do-or-die clash between two teams at the wrong end of the table, the Mumbai Indians play host to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The match #15 of the IPL 2024 season will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 11.

There’s nothing to separate these two teams, which have been patchy all through. Mumbai seemed to have found their mojo in their last match, and the anticipated return of SKY adds more intrigue. I am backing Mumbai to ride the euphoria and keep winning.

  • Mumbai have won 8 of their last 12 home matches against RCB (IPL)
  • Royal Challengers Bengaluru have lost their last 3 matches (IPL)
  • Royal Challengers Bengaluru have lost 9 of their last 15 matches against Mumbai (IPL)
  • Suryakumar Yadav has 3 scores of 60 or more in his last 6 matches against RCB (IPL)

Head to Head

Mumbai and Bengaluru have met each other in 34 matches, of which the Mumbai Indians won 20 and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru won 14.

Last season, the teams shared the spoils, winning their home matches. RCB won by seven wickets at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, while MI won by six wickets at the Wankhede Stadium.

Mumbai Indians Form

The Mumbai Indians finally broke a three-game losing streak to start the IPL 2024 season by defeating the Delhi Capitals by 29 runs. They have two points from four matches and are currently in search of points to move up the ladder.

Rohit Sharma returned to form, and that’s good news for Mumbai. They have four players aggregating 100+ runs this season, but Ishan Kishan has yet to flex his muscles as an opener.

Jasprit Bumrah (five wickets, ER 6.12) has been absolutely phenomenal for Mumbai, who otherwise were looking at Gerald Coetzee (seven wickets, ER 10.62) for breakthroughs.

Mumbai Indians Team News

Dewald Brevis was replaced by Mohammad Nabi in the last match, but he didn’t do much. It could be interesting to see if Mumbai opts for Brevis again.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru Form

The Royal Challengers have just one win from five matches, keeping them just below Mumbai in the points tally. They are coming off three consecutive defeats.

Virat Kohli is playing in a league of his own and is the Orange Cap holder with 316 runs so far, with two 50+ scores and one century. With no other batter contributing, it’s an open secret about their batting woes.

Bowling remains a major worry for the Royal Challengers, with only Yash Dayal’s five wickets being the most by an individual bowler. With all regular bowlers conceding at least eight runs per over, Bengaluru is feeling the pinch.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru Team News

Himanshu Sharma and Mayank Dagar failed to deliver in the last match, and one of those could be replaced by Vijaykumar Vyshak to give the RCB bowling a better balance.

Verdict

Both Mumbai and Bengaluru have played well below-par in the tournament so far. The return of SKY hasn’t gone well in the last match, but Mumbai will be better served if he performs well against one of his favourite teams. It could be Mumbai’s turn to post consecutive wins with a victory here.
