The inaugural champions of the Indian Premier League will be up against a team that reached the playoffs in both of their seasons as the Rajasthan Royals play the Lucknow Super Giants. The Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur will host this fourth match of IPL 2024 on Sunday afternoon, IST local time.

Rajasthan have enjoyed playing at this venue traditionally and will hope for a quick start. They have enjoyed quick starts at the top, and I am backing them to do that again. My money is on the Royals scoring more in the powerplay.

Three matches have been played between the Royals and the Super Giants so far in the two seasons that Lucknow was part of the IPL. Rajasthan holds a 2-1 win-loss edge.

Last season’s match saw Lucknow defeat Rajasthan by 10 runs at this venue. Kyler Myers scored a fifty, Avesh Khan took three wickets, and Marcus Stoinis did the all-round show with a 21 and 2 for 28.

Lucknow Super Giants finished the IPL 2023 group stages in third place with 17 points. Yet they couldn't go further and lost to Mumbai in the eliminator.

The KL Rahul-led side didn’t falter on the road and won three of their first four away matches last season, including one against the Royals. Replicating that form could be crucial for early-season success this year.

Mark Wood pulled out of the tournament after the England Cricket Board decided to manage his workload. He’s replaced by Shamar Joseph, although coach Justin Langer named Mayank Yadav as the one to watch out for.
