Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Rajasthan Royals IPL
One team looking to press the reboot button while another looking to go one step better than last season. When Sunrisers Hyderabad host Rajasthan Royals it will be a classic case of contrasting objectives. This IPL 2023 match #4 will be played in Hyderabad on Sunday, April 2.

Hyderabad are looking for a fresh start under new captain Aiden Markram but he will not be available for the first match. They still have a lot of bases covered and will hope new additions can give them the boost. It’s the Royals though, who have all the bases covered and I am backing Rajasthan Royals to start with a win.
- Sunrisers Hyderabad have lost 4 of their last 6 matches against Rajasthan Royals (IPL)
- Sunrisers Hyderabad have lost 6 of their last 7 matches (IPL)
- Sunrisers Hyderabad have conceded the most 6s of the match in their last 3 matches against Rajasthan Royals (IPL)
- Rajasthan Royals have hit the most 6s in 10 of their 17 matches last season (IPL)
- Jos Buttler ended up as Rajasthan Royals’ top scorer in 9 of their last 17 matches (IPL)
Head to Head
These two sides have played each other 16 times so far and it has been eight wins for each.
Last season however, it was the Royals who romped home by 61 runs. Sanju Samson scored a 27-ball 55 to help the Royals score 210/6. Yuzvendra Chahal’s 3/22 then restricted the Sunrisers to 149/7.
Sunrisers Hyderabad Form
The Sunrisers went for a big change in the off-season letting go Kane Williamson and getting in Aiden Markram as their captain. The South African isn’t available for the first game though with Bhuvneshwar Kumar leading the side.
Among other changes, the arrival of Mayank Agarwal gives impetus to their top-order while the exciting Harry Brook gives energy to the middle-order.
There’s enough firepower in the bowling ranks as well with Umran Malik, Bhuvneshwar and Karti Tyagi likely to lead from the front.
Sunrisers Hyderabad Team News
Aiden Markram won’t be available for this match along with his South African team mates Marco Jansen and Heinrich Klaasen. That could take their choice of overseas players off their hands with only five players available.
Rajasthan Royals Form
The Royals were one of the consistent sides in IPL 2022, finishing second in the league stage and then reaching the final only to lose to Gujarat Titans.
Jason Holder has been added to the squad to provide cover for the lower-order. There’s also the addition of Joe Root, who could be an interesting option in the mix of hard hitters.
What should worry the team is the lack of Indian bowlers, especially with Prasidh Krishna’s absence. The lanky pacer being ruled out of the season has been replaced by Sandeep Sharma.
Rajasthan Royals Team News
Obed McCoy is likely to miss the earlier stages of IPL 2023 for the Royals. Otherwise for now, the Royals have everyone else available for selection.

Verdict
Sunrisers Hyderabad are looking for a fresh start and would love to see how their new addition Harry Brook would go. For this game though, it is his England compatriot Jos Buttler who is likely to take centre stage. I am backing the Royals to win this match with Buttler leading the batting charts for them.
With the tournament offering new rules like impact player, keep an eye on who’s getting in and out during the substitution process. That could decide your intra-game picks.
