Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bangalore Women Preview

Mumbai Indians came storming back into the WPL as expected with a comfortable five-wicket win against Gujarat Giants to get on the board after a close defeat in their opener. Royal Challengers Bangalore continued their run of impressive form with a routine win against Delhi Capitals in their previous game to make it two from two to start the tournament.

Mumbai Indians were terrific from the outset as they restricted a strong batting order to 43 for 5. That included key wickets of Beth Mooney, Laura Wolvaardt, Ashleigh Gardner and Deandra Dottin, all foreign players for Gujarat. By that time, the game was all but done. Eventually, Gujarat were bowled out for 120.

Nat Sciver-Brunt took 2 for 26 while Hayley Matthews picked up figures of 3 for 16. Amelia Kerr chipped in with reliable figures of 2 for 22 from her four overs. In response, Sciver-Brunt managed 57 off 39 balls while Kerr managed 19 off 20 balls.

Royal Challengers had a very similar game against Delhi Capitals, restricting them to 141 all out. Even though Delhi had a strong start, that wasn’t anywhere close to enough on a decent pitch. Renuka Singh did the majority of the damage with figures of 3 for 23.

Mumbai Indians Form

Mumbai will be pleased with the quality of their performance in the previous game. They have one of the best all-round squads in the WPL and are expected to make a deep run into the tournament. That form should continue as the WPL picks up momentum with a change in venue in Bangalore.

Nat Sciver-Brunt has been in terrific form with two fifties already. Matthews, Kerr and Harmanpreet Kaur haven’t even found their best form yet, which will be concerning for the rest of the teams.

Mumbai Indians Team News

Mumbai have a settled batting order, which means that any changes may be to their bowling unit.

Royal Challengers Bangalore Form

In terms of form, RCB will be pleased with the return to form of Smriti Mandhana, who hit a terrific 81 off 47 balls, with 10 fours and 3 sixes. Danni Wyatt-Hodge gave her able company as the openers put on a 107-run opening stand in just 10.5 overs.

After a strong performance in the tournament opener, RCB will be confident of the form of their batting. Their bowling also has a nice balance, which bodes well for the team moving forward.

Royal Challengers Bangalore Team News

After two strong performances in their first two games, ECB may not make too many changes apart from any horses-for-courses corrections as needed for the day.

Verdict

While RCB have one of the best teams in the WPL worthy of being defending champions, this Mumbai team is arguably the most balanced team in the tournament. That is because all of their foreign bowlers can comfortably bowl all four overs. That bowling balance is key in conditions that can favour batters. RCB will compete but we’re backing Mumbai to come away with their second win of the season.
