Mumbai Indians vs UP Warriorz Preview
UP Warriorz are coming off a stellar win against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the WPL’s first ever Super Over, which means there is all to play for in another vital clash in the tournament.
In their previous match, Mumbai Indians put in a classy performance to beat RCB in a thriller. Chasing 168 to win, Mumbai were led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s 50 to complete the chase off the penultimate delivery.
UP Warriorz beat the same team in dramatic fashion on Monday night as Sophie Ecclestone put in a masterclass of all-round skill to help her team defend eight in the Super Over. With the game all but done in the chase of 181, Ecclestone scored 33 off 19 balls with one four and four sixes to tie the game.
Mumbai Indians Form
There are no concerns at all with the form of Mumbai as they head into a vital second half of the tournament. Mumbai were beaten in their opener but have been able to put that behind them quickly.
In their previous game, Mumbai were helped out with an excellent all-round effort from Amanjot Kaur, who took 3 for 22 before scoring 34 off 27 balls to ace a tricky chase. The form of their overseas stars has remained impressive, particularly Nat Sciver-Brunt who managed 42 off 21 balls with nine fours.
Mumbai will want Hayley Matthews to find her best soon. She has not quite hit her best form in this tournament in batting-friendly conditions, which will be somewhat of a concern for Mumbai.
Mumbai Indians Team News
After a solid performance in the previous game, Mumbai are unlikely to make too many changes to their team for this game.
UP Warriorz Form
UP Warriorz have roared back into form in this tournament after a slow start to the WPL. They have now won their last two games after two losses to start the tournament and have subsequently moved to third on the points table.
In their previous game, UP Warriorz looked buried at 134 for 8 in the 17th over before Ecclestone produced a sparkling innings to take the game to a Super Over. In that tiebreaker, she conceded just four runs to defend 8 to bring another vital victory for her team.
That confidence and momentum will certainly have an impact in a big match against one of the better teams in the competition. UP Warriorz have not got much from Grace Harris and Tahlia McGrath with the bat, which means that there could be a breakout innings on the horizon.
UP Warriorz Team News
Like Mumbai, UP Warriorz are unlikely to tinker too much with a winning combination either.
Verdict
While the UP Warriorz have displayed impressive form and resilience, the Mumbai Indians are just a tad too strong. They have enviable balance in their team with their three overseas allrounders all able to deliver four reliable overs each. The Warriorz will fight, as they have done throughout this tournament, but we’re backing Mumbai to come away with a win that puts them at the top of the table.
