Mumbai Indians vs UP Warriorz Preview

After a two-day break on account of the Champions Trophy semis, the WPL continues on Thursday with a crucial game between Mumbai Indians and the UP Warriorz. With the points table so tight, all of these fixtures will be pivotal heading into the home stretch.

Mumbai Indians have three wins in five matches, which has kept them second on the points table. UP Warriorz, on the other hand, suffered a vital loss in their previous match, which means they are still at the bottom of the points table, with plenty of work still to be done to recover in time.

In Lucknow, the pitch played true to nature, with even bounce and pace, which facilitated run-scoring in the first match at the stadium this season. That is likely to continue even in this game.

Mumbai Indians Form

Mumbai Indians are coming into this game on the back of a demoralising defeat to Delhi Capitals in their previous match. Mumbai could only manage 123 for 9 on a good pitch but Delhi put that score away within 15 overs, led by Jess Jonassen.

Mumbai will continue to rely on their overseas stars to ensure they can finish in the top spot, which becomes crucial in the WPL. They will be also be pleased with the all-round impressive form of Amanjot Kaur.

Mumbai Indians Team News

Amelia Kerr will continue to play for Mumbai Indians despite New Zealand’s ODI series against Sri Lanka having begun.

UP Warriorz Form

The UP Warriorz looked clueless and shoddy in their previous match against Gujarat Giants. In front of a lowd crowd, the UP Warriorz were undone by a terrific 96 from Beth Mooney. Gujarat Giants posted 186 for 5. Only Sophie Ecclestone showed some semblance of control with 2 for 34.

Chinelle Henry and Grace Harris were the only batters who could cross 20 as UP Warriorz were bowled out for 105 in 17.1 overs. UP need to turn that form around quickly.

UP Warriorz Team News

Georgia Voll was brought in for the previous match in place of Tahlia McGrath. She could get another game despite her duck.

Verdict

Mumbai have arguably the best balance in this WPL, led by their four overseas players, who can all bowl four overs apiece. That’s a big factor in the WPL with dew likely to set in: you would want your most experienced bowlers with ball in hand in the tight moments. We feel Mumbai are far too strong in this match.
