Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Gujarat Giants Preview
Gujarat Giants, on the other hand, have fallen away by the wayside this season. They started the season well but haven’t been able to generate any momentum after a strong start. Gujarat Giants are now at the bottom of the points table. While there isn’t much separating Gujarat from fourth, they need some confidence and fluency urgently.
These teams met in the WPL opener, which ended in heartbreak for Gujarat in a high-scoring thriller. In that match, Beth Mooney and Ashleigh Gardner put in sparkling performances to lead the Gujarat Giants to a mammoth 200-plus score but Royal Challengers Bangalore chased that with overs to spare.
Royal Challengers Bangalore Form
In their previous match, Royal Challengers Bangalore put 180 on the board, led by Ellyse Perry’s 90 off just 56 balls, with nine fours and three sixes. Even Danni Wyatt-Hodge produced a handy 57 off 41 balls with four fours and three sixes.
Defending a tricky target, it looked like RCB were acing that innings until Sophie Ecclestone turned on the afterburners to first tie the game and then ace her defense of eight in the Super Over.
That was an unusual loss for RCB, but one that will hurt them desperately, especially considering a win would have kept them at the top of the points table. Now, they will have to put in more work to move towards the top two.
In terms of form, RCB will be pleased with their overall balance. Perry has already had a stunning season. And a few other batters, including Smriti Mandhana, Wyatt-Hodge and Richa Ghosh have all put in terrific performances so far already.
Royal Challengers Bangalore Team News
RCB won’t rush to make too many changes after a thrilling defeat in their previous game.
Gujarat Giants Form
Gujarat Giants have been off the boil for the majority of the season. But when they have looked good, they have looked really solid. In their previous game, against Delhi Capitals, they looked far from their best as they were kept to 127 for 9 in their 20 overs.
That innings needed a rearguard performance from Bharti Fulmali, who scored 40 off 29 balls, after Gujarat were struggling at 60 for 6 in the 11th over. The only other noteworthy performance with the bat was Deandra Dottin’s 26 off 24 balls.
Gujarat Giants Team News
Gujarat may need some urgent personnel changes, particularly in the bowling department, which has looked far off the rest of the WPL’s high standards.
Verdict
Form and confidence have an influential impact in a format like T20s, especially in the high-pressure situation of the WPL. If this was the first match of the season, we may have advocated for you to at least consider the Gujarat Giants. However, with Gujarat struggling for any fluency, we would back the Royal Challengers Bangalore, who have a much more balanced team for these conditions, particularly with the ball.
