Australia have arrived to the party late and a win against Sri Lanka kept them alive in the competition. They now need to keep winning but Pakistan is too mercurial to rule them out of contention. It is a tricky encounter but one the Aussies should relish bringing their best game out. I am putting my money on Australia to win.
- Australia have won 4 of their last 6 matches played in Bengaluru (ODIs)
- Australia have won 14 of their last 19 World Cup matches (ODIs)
- Pakistan have lost 4 of the last 5 World Cup matches against Australia (ODIs)
- Pakistan have lost 10 of their last 12 matches against Australia (ODIs)
- David Warner has scored 3 100s in his last three matches against Pakistan (ODIs)
Head to Head
Australia have played Pakistan in 107 ODIs so far, winning 69 and losing 34. One match was a tie while the remaining three ended without a result.
The last time these sides played was in a three-match series in Pakistan when the hosts came from 1-0 down to win 2-1.
Australia have two points from three matches and only three teams are below them in the points table. They started with a six-wicket loss to India and a 134-run drubbing at the hands of South Africa that has pulled their run rate down.
It was a five-wicket win over Sri Lanka that has brought the Aussies back into contention. Marnus Labuschagne with 113 runs is the only guy who has aggregated more than 65 runs for them.
With the ball, Mitchell Starc and Adam Zampa have five wickets each but the overall unit is still lacking the usual rhythm you associate with Australian sides.
Australia Team News
Australia are likely to be without Travis Head once again as the opener could be targeting the next game against the Netherlands. They could play the same team as the previous match.
Pakistan are 4th in the points table with four points from three matches. They started the tournament well with an 81-run win over the Netherlands followed by a six-wicket win over Sri Lanka.
It was the seven-wicket drubbing at the hands of arch-rivals India that set Pakistan back. Captain Babar Azam is yet to fire in the tournament but Mohmmad Rizwan has 248 runs, including a 100 and a fifty.
The bowling is led by Hasan Ali with seven wickets while Haris Rauf with five has been his able deputy in the bowling stakes.
Pakistan Team News
Pakistan were concerned with a fever bug that hit the camp although Shaheen Shah Afridi has recovered. The Green Caps may be tempted to make a change with Usama Mir coming in for Shadab Khan.

Australia have come to the party late and will be looking for a second consecutive win, but it’s not going to be easy against Pakistan. Babar Azam’s men have lost comprehensively to India and need to take that game out of their system ahead of this tricky game. Yet, I believe it is India who have the edge and should win the match. I am also putting a small wager on David Warner to be Australia’s top batter.
