Australia vs West Indies First T20I
Australia steamrolled the West Indies in the three-match ODI series, as expected, without sweating too much. The visitors will be pressing for better returns in the format they love, as the teams now get ready for the T20Is. The first match will be played at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Friday.

The odds market is heavily leaned towards Australia, although West Indies are no mug in this format. What makes the options more lucrative is the odds being offered in the 6s market. West Indies have the firepower to edge the hosts and I am backing them to score the most 6s of the match.
- Australia have conceded the most 6s of the match in 3 of their last 5 matches (T20Is)
- Australia have conceded the most 6s of the match in 4 of their last 5 home matches (T20Is)
- West Indies have struck the most 6s of the match in 7 of their last 9 matches (T20Is)
- West Indies have lost 4 of their last 5 matches in Australia against the hosts (T20Is)
Head to Head
The teams have met in 19 T20Is so far with Australia winning nine and the Windies winning ten. The record is more skewed in the recent past with the Aussies winning four and losing just one of the last five H2Hs.
It was in October 2022 that these sides last met in T20Is with Australia winning the two-match series 2-0.
Australia Form
In the T20 World Cup year, all eyes will be on how Australia will prepare and finetune their squad. With regulars Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Steve Smith rested, there’s a chance for fringe players to impress.
Mitchell Marsh will lead the side while David Warner comes back, for what will be his last T20 series at home before hanging up his boots. Eight of the 15 players who won the 2021 T20 World Cup have been selected by the hosts.
That includes Glenn Maxwell who plays after his freak incident on a night out a few weeks ago. Jason Behrendorff will look to continue his good form he exhibited in the series against India last time out.
Australia Team News
Spencer Johnson is likely to sit out for the Australians, who may have to decide between having Josh Inglis as a pure batter or play Aaron Hardie, the all-rounder.
West Indies Form
West Indies will turn up with a different squad from the ODIs, as Rovman Powell looks to build up momentum ahead of their home World Cup. He’s looking for a fourth T20I series win in a row as captain of the side.
They are coming off consecutive 3-2 wins over India and England, two of the strongest teams in this format. Even their last tour ended in a success as they beat South Africa 2-1.
There’s no shortage of entertainment in this Windies squad with Johnson Charles, Brandon King, Nicholas Pooran, and Andre Russell a few of the T20 regulars set to play.
West Indies Team News
Gudakesh Motie, Roston Chase, Johnson Charles, and Oshane Thomas could be sitting out for the visitors.
