Bangladesh vs Afghanistan Third ODI

Afghanistan completed its first-ever ODI series win over Bangladesh with a mammoth 142-run win in the second match. They can now make it more memorable with a win in the final ODI at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Tuesday.

It has been an up-and-down series for the hosts who have been well below par in both matches. The chaos around Tamim Iqbal put even more pressure on the Bangladeshi side. The market is still favouring Bangladesh, which means backing Afghanistan offers enticing value.

Head to Head

There have been 13 ODIs between Bangladesh and Afghanistan so far. Of these, Bangladesh have won seven with Afghanistan winning six. It is Afghanistan who have won the last three matches in that sequence though.

Bangladesh Form

Bangladesh have been good at home in recent years but this series has been a poor advert for them. The Tigers have been rocked by what happened around Tamim Iqbal and that seems to have got them off the track.

The batters have flopped spectacularly for the hosts in the series with only two individual fifties being scored. Shakib Al Hasan’s poor form has been a concern with the top-order folding easily.

With the ball, Shakib is the leading bowler though, with three wickets. Yet, with no incisive spells in the series, the home team has been found wanting with the ball.

Bangladesh Team News

With the series lost but pride to play for, Bangladesh may press for some changes in their bowling front. Taskin Ahmed could get back into the XI.

Afghanistan Form

Afghanistan have shown that they are no pushovers in this format with impressive performances in the first two games. The 142-run win in the second match was the Afghan team’s third-highest in this format in terms of margins.

The success for Afghanistan has been laid by their openers as Ibrahim Zadran with a 40 and 100 has led their charge. Rahmanullah Gurbaz has shown his skill with a stunning 145 in the second ODI.

It has been an equally impressive show with the ball as seamer Fazalhaq Farooqi (six wickets) and Mujeeb Ur Rahman (five) have put Afghanistan on top.

Afghanistan Team News

Afghanistan have used the same team in both matches so far and there are no reasons why they could continue the same.

Verdict

Bangladesh have been surprisingly below-par this series and batting has been their low point. With none of the top-order batters standing up, it has been a case of missed chances for them. I am tempted to go by the high odds on an Afghan win although my wager would be a little low. I would rather put my money on Ibrahim Zadran continuing his batting form. Another fifty looks on the cards for the opener.
