England vs New Zealand Fourth T20I

After a commanding win in the third T20I to keep the series alive, New Zealand will look to continue the momentum as another win would level the four-match series against England. This final T20I of the series would be played at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Tuesday, late night IST.

The Kiwis smashed their way back into the series with a rocking win in the third match, just when everyone was about to rule them out. The underdogs love to sail below the radar once again, but England may be looking for immediate revenge. I am backing the hosts in the win market.

  • England have won 3 of their last 4 matches against New Zealand (T20Is)
  • England have won 9 of their last 15 home matches (T20Is)
  • New Zealand have lost 5 of their last 7 matches played in England (T20Is)
  • Ish Sodhi has taken at least a wicket in his last 7 matches (T20Is)

Head to Head

England have played New Zealand in 12 T20Is so far with New Zealand winning four, England winning seven and one ending in a no result.

England Form

England won the first two T20Is comprehensively and are still leading 2-1 in the series. They won the first T20I by seven wickets and the second by 95 runs.

The heavy 74-run loss in the third match brought some life back into the series. England will hope their batters can pick up form at the right time, as Harry Brook and Jonny Bairstow look to add to their aggregate score of 100+.

Bowling has been led by debutant Gus Atkinson (six wickets) and Luke Wood (four wickets). With Adil Rashid also amongst the wickets, England look to have all their bases covered.

England Team News

England kept Sam Curran and Brydon Carse out of the third T20I while Chris Jordan and Luke Wood played in. Jordan may keep his place if England decide to get Sam Curran back in.

New Zealand Form

In a must-win game, New Zealand smashed their way to 202 for 5 with Finn Allen (83) and Glenn Phillips (69) showing their T20 skills. It was then an easy second innings for the bowlers with Kyle Jamieson and Ish Sodhi taking three wickets each.

The series has been a tough one for the Kiwis, but Phillips has been a revelation with 132 runs at an average of 44. They would love to see Mark Chapman and Tim Siefert contribute more, though.

Ish Sodhi has been New Zealand’s best bowler (six wickets) of the series while Tim Southee (four wickets) has been a close second. Despite that win in the third match, the Kiwi bowlers have generally struggled with their control and conceded more than 8.50 runs per over.

New Zealand Team News

New Zealand played Matt Henry and Kyle Jamieson in the third T20I and those two may keep their spots.

Verdict

England were ambushed in the third T20I by a resurgent New Zealand but overall it was a series that the hosts dominated. They could look for more squad rotation but look a well-balanced outfit at the moment. I am still putting my money on England and backing them to close out the series with a win.
