It was a virtuoso performance from India to defeat Australia by an innings and 132 runs in the first Test. With so many questions around their team composition, it is difficult to see how Australia can make improvements in double quick time. I am backing India to win this match and continue their home dominance. A small wager can be had on Marnus Labuschagne scoring a fifty in the match and keep an eye on Ravindra Jadeja for ‘Player of the match’ honours.

Head to Head
India played Australia in 103 Tests so far with India winning 30, losing 43, one tie and 28 draws. When playing in India, there have been 51 Tests so far between these teams. India won 22, lost 13 and drew 15.
In the recent years, India have won ten of their last 12 home Tests against Australia losing only once. At Delhi, they have played seven Tests with three wins, three draws and only one loss which came way back in 1959.
India Form
India defeated Australia by an innings and 132-run margin in the first Test in Nagpur. Due to this result, they managed to overtake Australia as the top-ranked Test team in the ICC rankings.
It was a complete dominance in all fields for India with Ravindra Jadeja performing a lead role with both bat and ball. He took five wickets in the fist innings and two wickets in the second, to go with a composed 70 with the bat.
Rohit Sharma scored 120 to be the best batter of the Test, while Axar Patel chipped in with 84 while Ravichandran Ashwin picked up a second-innings five-for.
India Team News
Shreyas Iyer rejoined the squad after missing out the first Test due to an injury. He could slot straight back into the playing XI in place of Suryakumar Yadav.
Australia Form
Australia were walloped in Nagpur as their pre-game preparations came to nought. The decision to not play a practice match came back to haunt them and even a chance to practice on the centre wicket after the Test finished, couldn’t come to reality.
The visitors were poor with the bat failing to take advantage of batting first. A score of 177 was where they lost the match as only Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith, Peter Handscomb and Alex Carey could score more than 30 runs.
The second innings was worse with the Aussies folding out within a session for just 91 runs. Only Steven Smith could go beyond 20 runs as they failed to find answers to the spin twins – Ashwin and Jadeja.
Australia Team News
Left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann has been flown in and could straight away slot into the side. Cameron Green is being watched closely and could be a starter while Mitchell Starc is touch and go. All eyes will be on Travis Head to see if he can get a game in place of Matt Renshaw.

Verdict
India have shown their strength on pitches that favour spin with their batters displaying the technique and temperament needed on these tracks. It is tough to see how Australia can make incremental improvements in such a short turnaround.
I am backing India to win this match and extend their domination in home conditions. A small wager can be had on Labuschagne scoring a fifty in the match.
