India vs Australia ODI World Cup Final
It was in Chennai more than a month ago that India and Australia started their World Cup campaign with a match against each other. Here they are, the two best teams of the ICC ODI World Cup, playing in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Going purely by form book, India have been the best side in the tournament; hands down. Even Australia bore the brunt of their force, but things could be different here. The experience of playing a final could come in handy, although the huge crowd support will be for the home team. I am backing India to keep Australia at bay.
- India have won their last 10 matches (ODIs)
- India have won their last 5 matches at this venue (ODIs)
- Australia have lost their last 2 matches at this venue against India (ODIs)
- Mohammed Shami has taken the most wickets for India in 6 of his last 9 matches against Australia (ODIs)
Head to Head
There have been 150 ODIs between India and Australia so far with 57 wins for India and 83 wins for Australia. The remaining ten matches ended without a result.
When the sides meet in the group stage, India won by six wickets. A three-wicket haul for Jadeja restricted Australia to 199. They chased it down on the back of fifties by KL Rahul and Virat Kohli, despite being 2 for 3 at one point.
India Form
India are the in-form side of the tournament picking up ten wins on the trot. After staying unbeaten in the league stage with nine wins on the bounce, they defeated New Zealand comfortably in the semis by 70 runs.
The home team has practically dominated every metric in the tournament, both with the bat and ball. While their batters excelled in giving strong starts, the bowlers were impressive with their powerplay performances.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been their leading lights with the bat while the Indian pace trio have collected 54 wickets between them.
India Team News
The only question for the Indian management is to decide if Ravichandran Ashwin needs to be played; either in place of Suryakumar Yadav or Mohammed Siraj.
Australia Form
Australia were probably the second-best team in the tournament, losing only twice in the group stage. Both those defeats came at the beginning of the tournament and they reached the final with eight straight wins.
That included a thrilling three-wicket win over South Africa in the semi-finals. David Warner (528 runs) and Mitchell Marsh (426) have been their best batters and their contrasting records against India will be put under test here.
Adam Zampa has 22 wickets to his name and will be the key for Australia’s chances. He also has 27 wickets against India in ODIs played in India.
Australia Team News
Australia may play the same XI unless they feel the need to bring in Marcus Stoinis in place of Marnus Labuschagne.

Verdict
The biggest match of the ICC ODI 2023 World Cup sees home favourites India pit their wits against Australia. This is likely to go all the way, as both teams have been in impressive form. India though, have a slight edge considering the home advantage they boast. The pitch could also be drier and slower which adds to their advantage. I am backing India to break their ICC jinx and win the title.
