India and Australia played out an exciting match in Visakhapatnam that went down to the last ball. India prevailed in the end which makes the second match at the Green Field Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram interesting. This second T20I will be played on Sunday.

It was an interesting start to the series with both teams dishing out a strong performance. India will hope they can continue their good run while Australia will look to get back into the series. Before this series, the teams played last September when Australia toured India for a three-match series. India won that series 2-1 after losing the first match.

The first match in Vizag marked Suryakumar Yadav’s debut as captain, and he didn’t disappoint with the bat. Chasing 209 and finding his side in trouble at 22 for 2, SKY scored 80 off 42 to take India to a win.

There were contributions from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rinku Singh as India treated the fans to some aggressive batting display. That said, their bowling still remains a work in progress.

Mukesh Kumar impressed with his control, but otherwise there weren’t many positives for India from Vizag in their bowling performance.

India could look at giving a game to Avesh Khan in place of the expensive Prasidh Krishna.

Australia Form

Australia rested some of their World Cup winners and still looked dominant in the first match, without being able to apply the finishing touches.

Josh Inglis was the star of the show with the bat, scoring a sparkling century while Steve Smith scored a sedate fifty. It was a batting performance that had little problems for stand-in captain Matthew Wade.

With the ball though, it was a different story as barring Behrendorff, every bowler struggled for the visitors.

Adam Zampa, Travis Head and Glenn Maxwell sat out of the first match but could come into reckoning for this match.

Verdict

It was a tight match in Vizag that kicked off the series. With very little context for this series in the short term, there isn’t much enthusiasm from the crowd. That could work to the advantage of Australia, but it isn’t much at the moment. I am putting my money in the six market with India looking to boss that section. Also keep an eye on Suryakumar Yadav topping the batting charts for India.
