Bangladesh have had an upper hand over India in the recent clashes and could fancy their chances here. This World Cup has come alive with some upsets and if India lose, that could throw the tournament wide open. While we are tempted to back an upset here, India could be the one calling the shots. India’s top-order is in some fine form and could play a differentiator. I am backing the top batter of the match to come from India.

  • India had the top batter of the match in their last 3 World Cup matches (ODIs)
  • India had the top batter of the match in 8 of their last 10 matches against Bangladesh (ODIs)
  • Bangladesh conceded the top score of the match in 2 of their last 3 World Cup matches (ODIs)
  • Rohit Sharma has hit 3 hundreds and a fifty across his last 6 matches against Bangladesh in multi-nation tournaments (ODIs)

Head to Head

India played Bangladesh in 40 ODIs so far with 31 wins for the men in blue and eight wins for the Tigers. One match ended without any result.

The last time these sides played was in the Asia Cup in September when India rotated their squad and were beaten by six runs.

India Form

India are top of the table after three rounds with six points and a run rate of 1.821. They defeated Australia by six wickets, Afghanistan by eight wickets and Pakistan by seven wickets.

Captain Rohit Sharma has been the top contributor for India (217 runs) with a century and fifty. Virat Kohli has also scored a couple of fifties while with the ball, Jasprit Bumrah’s eight wickets (ER 3.44) have been a revelation.

With their next two games against New Zealand and England, India can’t afford a loss here and put themselves under pressure for those big games.

India Team News

India made just one change in their two games and could go with the same team here, unless questions are raised over Mohammed Siraj’s returns.

Bangladesh Form

Bangladesh are 7th in the standings with two points after three rounds. They are right in the middle of five teams that have two points each. They won by six wickets against Afghanistan in their series opener.

Following that, the Tigers fell to a 137-run loss to England and an eight-wicket drubbing at the hands of New Zealand. With only Mushfiqur Rahim aggregating more than 100 runs in the tournament, it is the batting where they are let down.

The Bangla Tigers haven’t really clicked with the ball too where Shoriful Islam and Shakib Al Hasan have been their best picks with five wickets each.

Bangladesh Team News

Bangladesh are sweating about the injury to Shakib Al Hasan. He’s recovering fast, but with five more games to be played, Bangladesh are contemplating if they should risk him here or not.

Verdict

India are high on recent form while Bangladesh have an edge on recent head-to-head form. I am tempted to back Bangladesh, wondering if the story of underdogs continue to excel in the World Cup. Instead, I am putting my money on India having the top individual score of the match.
