India vs England Second Test
The first Test in Hyderabad between India and England proved to be one for the ages with both teams giving it their all. In the end, it was the Bazball of the visitors that gave them a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. With Vizag set to host the second game, are we in for more surprises from Ben Stokes’ team? The second Test will be played in Visakhapatnam from Friday, February 2.

India’s advantage in the spin department was swept out by England as their inexperienced spinners proved more than adequate. With India set to miss two of their best players from the first Test, the scales are even more tilted towards England.

- England have conceded the first innings lead in 4 of their last 5 matches (Tests)

Head to Head
India and England have played each other in 132 Tests so far with India winning 31, England winning 51 and the remaining 50 ending in a draw.
When playing in India, the record is 22-15 in favour of India in 64 matches, with the remaining 28 matches ending in a draw. The first Test saw England win by 28 runs after a miraculous comeback in the second innings having conceded a 190-run lead.
India Form
India had a great record at home but England is the team that defeated them last in a home Test series. And England it was, who dominated them in the first match in Hyderabad.
The Indian bowlers did well to limit England to 246 in the first innings with the spinners sharing eight wickets. Their first innings reply was 436 with three batters scoring 80 or more. Yet, the lead of 190 wasn’t enough to prevent their loss.
Second innings changed the entire landscape as India failed to hold on to their chances in the field and then in the 231-run chase, falling short by 28 runs.
India Team News
Virat Kohli continues to be unavailable for India, while KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja are out of this match injured. Rajat Patidar or Sarfaraz Khan could debut, while India may look at playing Kuldeep Yadav in place of Mohammed Siraj.
England Form
England weren’t given any chance by analysts before the first Test started, while their chances were written down after the first innings. And when Ben Stokes was dismissed in the second innings with the lead still in India’s hands, it looked like England’s game to lose.
The game changed on its head right there with Ollie Pope sweeping and reverse-sweeping his way to 196, which was perhaps one of the best Test innings played in India.
From there on, the English spinners started to rule the roost with debutant Tom Hartley picking up seven wickets and leading the visitors to a confident victory.
England Team News
England rested James Anderson in the first match and could be tempted to get him into the XI in place of Mark Wood. Jack Leach is injured, which means a possible debut for off-spinner Shoaib Bashar.

Verdict
It won’t be a surprise if England continue their upward momentum, especially with India missing their key performers from the first Test. I am however, backing the hosts to still post a first innings lead.
