India vs Netherlands ODI World Cup

In the last group stage match of the ODI World Cup, the runaway leaders India will look to avoid an upset as they face the spirited Netherlands. This match will be played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday.

India have been aggressive with both bat and ball in the powerplay overs. That could be set to continue here and the hosts are likely to put up a performance at the top of the order. I am backing India to post the highest opening partnership of the match.

  • India posted the highest o/p in 3 of their last 4 matches (ODIs)
  • India posted the highest o/p score in 2 WC matches against the Netherlands (ODIs)
  • The Netherlands have conceded the highest o/p in 6 of their last 7 matches (ODIs)
  • India have won their last 8 matches (ODIs)

Head to Head

The teams have played just two ODIs so far with India winning both matches. The first was in the 2003 World Cup and the second in the 2011 World Cup.

India Form

India are confirmed to go into the semis as the top-placed team in the standings. They have won all eight matches and even with a loss they can’t be caught at the top.

The hosts have been impressive in all departments dominating with both bat and ball. Rohit Sharma has been aggressive at the start while Virat Kohli (543 runs) has been calmly accumulating runs.

It is with the ball that India look frightening as their balanced attack is giving jitters to every side. Mohammed Shami (16 wickets) has been breathtakingly effective with the ball, while Jasprit Bumrah (15) and Ravindra Jadeja (14) have been impressive too.

India Team News

The only injury concern is Hardik Pandya, who is now ruled out of the tournament. India could go with the same team unless they want to try out Shardul Thakur in place of Suryakumar Yadav to give extra options with the ball in the knockouts.

Netherlands Form

The Netherlands are bottom of the points table with four points but can move up to seventh with an assertive win. They are still in the fray for a top-eight finish and thereby qualifying for the Champions Trophy.

England, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are also on four points each. With England and Bangladesh finishing their engagements on Saturday, the Dutch will know if a win is enough for them to get into the top-eight spots.

Sybrand Engelbrecht (255) and captain Scott Edwards (242) are the lone rangers with the bat for the Dutch, who would be desperate for some top-order action. With the ball, Bas de Leede (14 wickets) has been pulling his weight consistently.

Netherlands Team News

The Netherlands could take a call on including the young leg-spinner Shariz Ahmed to trouble the Indian batters.

Verdict

India has been the best side of the tournament chalking out wins consistently and comprehensively. Although the Netherlands have punched above their weight, another upset in this match looks a far-fetched option. I am backing India to win this but as the odds are low, I am putting my money on India scoring more in the opening partnership.
