Both India and New Zealand have won their games with room to spare in the tournament. It is difficult to pick a winner in this match on current form, but we are going to go a bit back in time. I am looking at India’s home record against New Zealand and putting money on a win for the hosts.
- India have won 11 of their last 13 World Cup matches (ODIs)
- India have won 15 of their last 18 matches played at home venues (ODIs)
- New Zealand have lost 14 of their last 17 matches played against the hosts in India (ODIs)
- New Zealand lost the only match they played at this venue (ODIs)
Head to Head
India have played New Zealand in 116 ODIs so far, with 58 wins for India and 50 wins for New Zealand. Of the remaining, seven ended without any result while one was tied.
The last time these sides played was in a three-match series in India during January this year. India won all three matches then.
India Form
India are 2nd in the points tally with eight points and separated from the top only by NRR. They defeated Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh so far in the tournament.
All the matches saw India chase down the target, with their bowlers making sure the targets are below par. It is Jasprit Bumrah (10 wickets, ER 3.62) and Ravindra Jadeja (seven wickets, ER 3.75) who have been leading India’s bowling charge.
With the bat, look no further than Virat Kohli (259) and Rohit Sharma (265), who have two hundreds and three fifties between them in the tournament.
India Team News
India will be without all-rounder Hardik Pandya who was injured in the last match. He could be replaced by Suryakumar Yadav if they opt to strengthen their batting, although Ravichandran Ashwin is a good choice too, considering the left-handers in the Kiwis line-up.
New Zealand Form
New Zealand are top of the points tally after four matches with eight points and an NRR of 1.923. They have easily defeated England, the Netherlands, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
The Kiwi top-order is in cracking form with Devon Conway (249 runs) and Rachin Ravindra (215) leading their rush. They have managed to cover up for the absence of Kane Williamson.
With the ball too, Mitch Santner (11 wickets) and Matt Henry (nine) have been on the spot with their efficiency and accuracy.
New Zealand Team News
New Zealand are likely to take a look at playing Ish Sodhi, considering his success in white ball cricket against India. If so, Mark Chapman could be the one missing out.

Verdict
India and New Zealand are the two in-form sides at this stage of the tournament winning matches with ease. They have ticked most of the boxes, so it is difficult to pick a clear winner here. India may have a slight edge considering their impressive home record against New Zealand. I am going by that record and backing India to be a winner here.
