India got the better of New Zealand in the group stages of the tournament, but this is going to be a different ball game. The Kiwis got the better of India at the same stage in the 2019 World Cup and will fancy their chances. I am looking at the sixes market as India have been dominating on that count and are likely to top that segment again.
- India recorded the most 6s in 8 of their last 9 matches (ODIs)
- New Zealand conceded the most 6s in 3 of their last 4 matches (ODIs)
- India have conceded an average of 4 sixes per game in this WC, the lowest of all teams (ODIs)
- New Zealand have conceded an average of 9 sixes per game in this WC, the highest of all teams (ODIs)
- Virat Kohli has 8 scores of 50 or above in his last 10 matches (ODIs)
Head to Head
There have been 117 ODIs between India and New Zealand so far, with 59 wins for India and 50 wins for New Zealand. Seven matches ended without a result while one finished as a tie.
When the sides met in the group stages, Rachin Ravindra (75) and Daryl Mitchell (130) led the Kiwis to 273 with Mohammed Shami picking up 5 for 54. The Indian chase was led by Virat Kohli’s 95, with the side managing to push the Kiwis aside, holding their own.
India Form
India topped the group stages of the tournament with nine wins out of nine. They practically led the charts in all segments and will start this match as the favourites.
The hosts have enjoyed the improved form of Virat Kohli (594 runs) and Rohit Sharma (503). What has worked wonders for the Indians is how their middle-order has improved as KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have started delivering.
With the ball, it has been a collective work with Mohammed Shami (16), Jasprit Bumrah (17) and Ravindra Jadeja (16) consistently delivering with wickets.
India Team News
India could be tempted to look at playing Ravichandran Ashwin to counter the left-handers in the Kiwi line-up. Suryakumar Yadav could be the one to miss out.
New Zealand Form
New Zealand finished 4th in the points table with five wins and four losses. They had to wait until late in the group stages to confirm their passage to the semis.
The Kiwis had a great start to the tournament with four straight wins but fell off the perch with four straight losses. Just when it looked like they were complicating things, New Zealand won against Sri Lanka.
They start with a clean slate here and will hope Rachin Ravindra (565 runs) can continue with his impressive tournament along with Daryll Mitchell (418). With the ball, it has been Mitchell Santner (16) leading their bowling charts.
New Zealand Team News
New Zealand may look to bring in James Neesham to shore their middle-order with Mark Chapman likely to make way.

Verdict
India has been the team to beat in this tournament but New Zealand will fancy their chances here looking at their ICC record against the men in blue. I am putting my money on India in the sixes count though, with the Rohit Sharma-led team likely to top those charts. Put a small wager on New Zealand winning the match if you want to go for an exotic pick.
