India have two wins from their three matches with the loss to England in their last match being the lone defeat. Ireland on the other hand have already been eliminated but will look to sign off on a high. There isn’t value in backing India win this match as the odds are heavily stacked in their favour. That makes us look into the individual player markets with Smrithi Mandhana backed to be India’s top batter.

  • India women have won their 5 of their last 7 matches (T20Is)
  • India women have won 6 of their last 8 matches in the World Cup (T20Is)
  • Ireland women have lost each of their 16 previous World Cup matches (T20Is)
  • Smrithi Mandhana has scored at least 17 in 6 of her last 10 World Cup matches (T20Is)
  • Richa Ghosh has scored at least 31 in 4 of her last 5 matches hitting at least 4 boundaries (T20Is)
  • Orla Prendergast has been Ireland’s top scorer in their last two matches (T20Is)

Head to Head

India and Ireland have played each other out only once previous, which was in the 2018 Women’s World T20. India won that game by 52 runs with Smrithi Mandhana scoring 33 as an opener.

India Women Form

India women are 2nd in Group B standings of the tournament with two wins out of three matches. They started with seven-wicket win over Pakistan and a six-wicket win over West Indies.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s team were brought crashing back when they lost a tight game to England by 11 runs. They couldn’t chase down 152 despite Richa Ghosh’s late heroics.

Pakistan and West Indies are locked on two points each and will go head-to-head in a match that would give one team a chance to level on points with India. If India lose here, it could come down to net run rate for qualification and they wouldn’t want to risk that.

India Women Team News

With no known injuries in the side, Harmanpreet Kaur should have a complete squad to choose the final XI from.

Ireland Women Form

Ireland Women are 5th in the group standings after losing their first three matches in the tournament. They are already eliminated and would be playing for pride.

The European girls did create a flutter by defeating Australia in the practice matches and then stretching England to a four-wicket loss in the first match, but that was that. They lost to Pakistan by 70 runs and were beaten by West Indies in a tight game by six wickets to be eliminated.

With nothing much to lose and still waiting for their first win in the women’s T20 World Cups, Ireland could vow to play without fear.

Ireland Women Team News

Ireland have not had any injuries hampering their tournament and should see full squad being available for selection.

Verdict

India women would be hurt by the loss to England which deprived them of a chance to top the table. They wouldn’t want to complicate their chances of qualification by losing here.

I am backing Smrithi Mandhana to be India’s top batter once again while Orla Prendergast is a good pick to lead Ireland’s charge.
