New Zealand surprised a few cricket followers with their aggressive dismantling of England in the tournament opener. They could go the same way and blitz away the Netherlands to keep their run-rate soaring. I am backing them to score the most 6s of the match.
- New Zealand have scored the most 6s of the match in 2 of their last 3 matches (ODIs)
- The Netherlands have conceded the most 6s of the match in 6 of their last 10 matches (ODIs)
- The Netherlands have conceded the most 6s in all 4 matches against New Zealand (ODIs)
- Devon Conway has 3 centuries in his last 6 matches (ODIs)
Head to Head
New Zealand have played the Netherlands in four ODIs so far winning all four, rather comfortably. Three wins came with margins of 115, 118 and 119 runs while the fourth was by seven wickets. The last three wins came in April 2022 when the Dutch toured New Zealand for a series.
New Zealand Form
Underdogs for many, New Zealand turned on the heat in their first match against defending champions England in style. They restricted England to 282 for 9 after opting to bowl first.
Matt Henry led the show with three wickets while Mitch Santner and Glenn Phillips had two wickets each. The chase was a blitz as the Kiwis raced home in just 36.2 overs losing a solitary wicket.
Devon Conway with 152* and Rachin Ravindra with 123* added an unbeaten 273 runs for the second wicket. Rachin also became the youngest Kiwi to score a hundred on World Cup debut.
New Zealand Team News
New Zealand missed Kane Williamson, Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson for the first match. Kane is likely to be available and could replace Will Young while Mark Chapman may make way for one of the bowlers.
Netherlands Form
The Netherlands played their first match of the tournament at this venue, losing by 81 runs to Pakistan. The losing margin doesn’t tell the entire story as the Dutch were impressive in phases.
They bowled out Pakistan for 286 in 49 overs with Bas de Leede leading the show with four wickets. They looked comfortable in the chase with 120 for 2 in the 24th over.
The Dutch couldn’t sustain the momentum though, and kept losing wickets in the middle overs. De Leede once again led the batting charts with a 67 while there was a fifty for opener Vikramjit Singh.
Netherlands Team News
The Netherlands played with their usual mix of all-rounders and may opt for the same XI unless they want to get Ryan Klein a game in place of Paul van Meekeren.

Verdict
New Zealand were sensational against England in the way they led the show. Not just their batting but even Tom Latham’s captaincy was spot on, with his bowling changes. With Kane Williamson set to return, it only makes them stronger against the Netherlands. There are going to be tougher matches for the Kiwis up front, which means they could go for a blitz once again to boost their net run rate. Back them to go high on the 6s while Devon Conway is looking red-hot to continue his scoring form. As for the Dutch, you can’t go beyond de Leede for their best player.
