Sri Lanka came so close to booking their final spot but batting let them down against India. With the Pakistani bowling unit hampered by injuries, it could come down to how well their spinners can step up. There’s something about Asia Cup and Sri Lanka as they seem to reserve their best for the tournament. It is the individual market that I am looking at, and backing Babar Azam to score at fifty while Pakistan could fly into the final.

Pakistan are third in the points table in the Super Fours with two points from two matches. They have defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets but were thrashed by India by 228 runs in the next.

The official hosts of the tournament have struggled with their batters failing to rise up to the occasion. Except captain Babar Azam (178 runs) there hasn’t been any consistent scorer.

Bowling was all about Haris Rauf (nine) but with him ruled out along with Naseem Shah (seven), Shaheen Shah Afridi faces a huge task on his shoulders.

Pakistan announced four changes to the side that lost to India. Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Agha Salman and Faheem Ashraf are either rested or benched. In come Zaman Khan, Mohammad Wasim Jr., Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Nawaz.

Sri Lanka Form

Sri Lanka are second in the Super Fours points table with two points from two matches, but with a superior net run rate over Pakistan. They have defeated Bangladesh by 21 runs but fell short by 41 runs against India.

The Islanders have four players aggregating at least 100 runs but none more than Sadeera Samarawickrama (167). He along with Kusal Mendis form the backbone of their challenge now.

Among the bowlers, Dunith Wellalage (nine wickets) surprised with a five-wicket return against India. Matheesha Pathirana (eight) and Maheesh Theekshana (nine) are also amongst the wickets.

Pakistan v Sri Lanka - One Day Match

I am tempted to back Sri Lanka purely because of the fight they put up against India and Pakistan’s injury worries. Yet, never count Pakistan out especially when they are down. I am putting my money on Pakistan winning this match while Babar Azam is more likely to lead from the front.
