Surprisingly, South Africa and Afghanistan have played just once in the 2019 World Cup in Cardiff. The Proteas won that match by nine wickets.

The Proteas are coming off a 243-run defeat at the hands of India, but that was a minor aberration in their tournament. They have been comprehensive in all their results, except the one-wicket win over Pakistan.

Ibrahim Zadran (361 runs) has seen his batting improve in the recent matches and could be Afghan’s batting mainstay once again. Bowling has been a worry though, with no bowler taking more than Rashid Khan’s nine.
