Australia continued their dominance over South Africa bamboozling the hosts with excellent display. I backed the hosts in both the matches but they seem no match for the visitors. Although it is tempting to risk fate and back the hosts again, I am dipping into the individual market backing Zampa to take at least 2 wickets.
- South Africa have hit the most 6s of the match in 7 of their last 8 home matches against Australia (ODIs)
- South Africa have hit the most 6s in 3 of their last 5 home matches against all sides (ODIs)
- Adam Zampa has taken at least 3 wickets in 8 of his last 14 matches (ODIs)
- David Warner has scored at least 80 in 3 of his last 6 matches (ODIs)
Head to Head
There have been 105 ODIs in total, between South Africa and Australia. Of these, the Proteas have won 51 and lost 50 with three ending as ties and one had no result.
The record is equally tight in South Africa with the 48 ODIs in the Rainbow nation between these teams seeing 25 wins for South Africa and 22 wins for Australia.
South Africa Form
After losing the T20I series 3-0, South Africa couldn’t get their act going in the ODIs. They lost the first match by 3 wickets before succumbing by 123 runs in the second match.
Despite the losses, the only positive for the Proteas is their captain Temba Bavuma. He has 160 runs in the series and looked in fluent touch. With the ball, it has been a different story though.
Tabraiz Shamsi and Kagiso Rabada have taken four wickets each but none of the bowlers have conceded below six runs per over, underlining their areas of improvement.
South Africa Team News
Anrich Nortje suffered a back spasm and is unlikely to be available for this match. Sisanda Magala has been cleared to play and could be slotted straight back into the XI.
Australia Form
Continuing from their T20 series win, Australia managed to overwhelm their opponents with dominant play. While the first match was a closer affair, the second one was as one-sided as any can get.
The surprise hero of the visiting party is Marnus Labuschagne who has 204 runs in the series with a 100 and 50. He came in as a concussion sub in the first ODI and never looked back since.
Bowling has been equally brilliant with Adam Zampa (five wickets) leading the show. With only two bowlers conceding more than six runs per over, it is the Aussie bowlers who have been leading the show.
Australia Team News
Australia will be without Spencer Johnson who has tweaked his hamstring.

Verdict
Australia have been all over South Africa, who have been second-best in all departments. While the law of averages suggest the result is due to change, I am not going a third time running backing the Proteas. Instead, I am looking at Adam Zampa in the individual market and backing him to take at least 2 wickets. A slightly exotic pick would be to back South Africa in the 6s market.
