South Africa vs India Second T20I
After rain dampened the spirits of spectators in Durban, South Africa and India take their T20I series to Port Elizabeth. The second T20I will be played at the St. George’s Park in Gqeberha on Tuesday, but will rains relent?

There’s nothing that changed from the first T20I as even the toss was abandoned. South Africa will now have one lesser match to finalise their combinations before coming up with their squad, although they will lean on SA20 tournament. Same for India, although they have three more matches against Afghanistan. I am still backing India, who have recently played against Australia.
- South Africa have lost 5 of their 7 home matches against India (T20Is)
- India have won 8 of their last 9 completed matches (T20Is)
- Reeza Hendricks has scored at least 42 in 9 of his last 11 matches (T20Is)
Head to Head
South Africa have played India in 24 T20Is so far with ten wins for the Proteas and 13 wins for India. The remaining two matches including the first of this series, ended without any result.
The last time these sides met was in the 2022 World Cup in Perth when India won by five wickets.
South Africa Form
South Africa are looking to bounce back after the ODI World Cup disappointment where they lost in the semis. Regular captain Temba Bavuma is rested giving the leadership to Aiden Markram in this series. The focus is mostly on the two-Test series to follow after the white-ball format.
The two uncapped pacers Ottniel Baartman and Nandre Burger will look to kickstart their career as the hosts look to find some answers to bowlers either rested or injured.
Markram will have to don the double role of being the captain as well as their best batter. Keep an eye on Reeza Hendricks, who continues to remain on the periphery despite being their best T20 player for a while.
South Africa Team News
Lungi Ngidi has been ruled out of the series due to an injury and South Africa have named Beuran Hendricks as a replacement.
India Form
India had a hectic time straight after the ODI World Cup, a tournament they lost in the final. They defeated Australia in a five-match series 4-1 with key players rested.
Players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are still rested with Suryakumar Yadav leading the side once again. There are a number of IPL stars like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravi Bishnoi who are looking to be the nucleus of the side going into the World Cup.
Mohammed Siraj makes a comeback to the squad along with Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav as the players look to get some form before moving up the selection ladder.
India Team News
It could be a toss-up between Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal for the opener’s slot. Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Jitesh Sharma, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav are likely to sit out while Mukesh Kumar could edge out Deepak Chahar.

Verdict
India were dominant in their series win against Australia, although the conditions are completely different to what they will encounter here. That said, T20s are regularly played on batting surfaces and India would fancy their chances. Don’t be surprised if the Proteas turn up a bit rusty. I am backing India to win here, while Reeza Hendricks could be leading the batting charts for South Africa.
