South Africa vs India Third T20I
After rain played havoc in the first T20I, South Africa managed to edge out India in another rain-affected match to go 1-0 up in the series. With the series on the line and South Africa resting their regulars, is it time for India to strike back? The third and final game of the series will be played at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Thursday.

It was a tough outing for the visitors in the second match with dew spoiling any hopes of putting up a fight. Rain isn’t expected to play spoilsport and I am backing India to do the job and level the series.
- South Africa have lost 5 of their 8 home matches against India (T20Is)
- South Africa have lost 6 of their last 9 matches at this venue (T20Is)
- India have won 8 of their last 10 completed matches (T20Is)
- Reeza Hendricks has scored at least 42 in 10 of his last 12 matches (T20Is)
Head to Head
South Africa have played India in 25 T20Is so far with 11 wins for the Proteas and 13 wins for India. The remaining two matches including the first of this series, ended without any result.
The second match of the series was played in Gqeberha where India scored 180 for 7 in 19.3 before rain halted play. South Africa chased the revised target of 152 runs in 15 overs with seven balls and five wickets in hand.
South Africa Form
Dew played to South Africa’s advantage, but take nothing away from how they brought their best game in the second match. Gerald Coetzee sparkled with the ball taking 3 for 32 and Tabraiz Shamsi was the best with 1 for 18 off four overs.
With the bat, it was the quick start that killed the game. Reeza Hendricks once again led the charge with 49 off 27 balls while the rest played around him.
The challenge in the third match though will be to make sure the absences are not felt. Marco Jansen and Coetzee have been released to play red-ball cricket.
South Africa Team News
Nandre Burger could get his debut in place of Jansen while all-rounder Donovan Ferreira may get a nod too.
India Form
India had a horror start with the bat as both the openers were dismissed for ducks. It was a good recovery from there as captain Suryakumar Yadav sparkled with 56 off 36 balls.
It was Rinku Singh though, who took away the spotlight with an innings of high maturity, remaining unbeaten on 68 off 39 balls. It was a pity that India couldn’t quite get used to the dewy conditions.
Bowlers struggled through and through with the wet ball and only a late flurry of wickets added any semblance of interest.
India Team News
Ruturaj Gaikwad missed the second match due to illness but could come into the side in place of Shubman Gill. There could be a place for Ravi Bishnoi too, in place of Kuldeep Yadav.

Verdict
India played their part well with the bat, especially their middle-order. There’s a spark with this middle-order and they could cash in on an inexperienced bowling attack as South Africa have rested their best bowlers with a view on preparing for the Tests. I am backing India to level the series.
