Pakistan held forte and won the first Test at Galle on the back of an impressive first-innings performance against Sri Lanka. They now have a chance to close out the series in the second match starting at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo from Monday.

A close first Test saw both teams have their chances but it was Pakistan who came out deserved winners. Sri Lanka’s poor fielding cost them the game although they weren’t far behind the visitors. It is Pakistan who look dominant enough to take the honours. SSC is notorious for dishing out draws and the visitors won’t mind one here. I am backing Pakistan on the draw no bet market.

It was a case of missed opportunity for Sri Lanka as their top-order failed to deliver in both innings of the first Test. Scores of 54 for 4 and 99 for 4 in the two innings suggests as much.

The hosts had to rely on Dhananjaya de Silva (122 and 82) to give them some respectability in the match. Having three ‘keepers in Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal and Sadeera Samarawickrama didn’t quite help them.

Bowling has been largely about the spin duo of Ramesh Mendis and Prabath Jayasuriya who shared 12 of the 16 wickets to fall in the match.

Pakistan Form

Pakistan didn’t quite boss the first match but did enough to master different situations and come out on top. The visitors heavily relied on the 177-run partnership between Saud Shakeel and Agha Salman in the first innings which proved to be the difference.

The visitors will hope that captain Babar Azam recovers his form, as he endured a rare poor Test. The left-handed Shakeel has been a revelation though, with his first innings score of 208* winning them the match.

The bowling duties have been equally shared, which is a positive sign coming to Colombo for the second Test.

Sri Lanka v Pakistan - 2nd Test

Pakistan have been impressive in all departments in the first Test and that makes them favourites to continue on the result front here. I am putting my money on a draw no bet for the visitors. There’s enough evidence to suggest that Saud Shakeel could be the man for Pakistan and he is my outside pick to be their best batter in the first innings.
