Australia were comfortable winners in the 1st ODI so I’m backing a repeat performance. Mitchell Marsh didn’t quite get going but his T20 form still holds some water.

Australia have won five of their last six ODIs against the West Indies. In the opening match of this series Australia won by 133 runs on the D/L method.

West Indies Form

The West Indies failed to translate their dominant T20I form into the ODI format against Australia. After beating the Aussies 4-1 in the T20 series, the hosts lost the 1st ODI by 133 runs.

Bowling first, the West Indies started reasonably well but failed to take enough wickets during the middle overs. This allowed Australia to recover to score 252 runs on a slow pitch. Hayden Walsh was magnificent with the ball, taking 5-39 in 10 overs.

The West Indies response was however rather shocking. They were staring down some unwanted records at 27-6 but they recovered to make 123 runs. Kieron Pollard top scored with 56 while only three other players passed the 10-run mark.

The West Indies form ODI batsman, Shai Hope did not start the 1st ODI. They paid a dear price and if fit will surely play the second match.

Australia Form

Australia bounced back superbly from their horror T20 showing by beating the Windies by 133 runs in Bridgetown. Batting first Australia scored 252 runs.

Josh Philippe and Ben McDermott got the visitors off to a decent start, scoring 39 and 28 respectively. A few quick wickets however put the Aussies in a difficult position.

Alex Carey (67) and Ashton Turner (49) rescued the situation with a 104-run partnership to lead Australia to a competitive total.

Mitchell Starc took 5-48 and Josh Hazelwood 3-11 as Australia bowled the West Indies out for 123 runs. The 133-run win will give the visitors plenty of confidence heading into the 2nd ODI.

Australia Team News

Australia were impressive in the 1st ODI. They are likely to remain unchanged although Josh Hazelwood or Mitchell Starc could be rested.

West Indies v Australia - 2nd ODI

Australia are backed to continue their dominance over the West Indies in the 2nd ODI. I am sticking with Mitchell Marsh after his fine recent run of form by backing him in the top Australia batsman and Man of the match markets.

Shai Hope is tipped to top score for the hosts.
