After a strong performance across the board in the first ODI, West Indies will look to extend their winning record at this venue when they face England. This second ODI of the three-match series will be played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua on Wednesday.

It was a surprising result for even the Windies fans that they won by four wickets in the first ODI. There was a calmness in the way they dominated all facets of that match.

There were wickets for all the bowlers with three taking two wickets each, to restrict England to 325 all out. Gudakesh Motie and Oshane Thomas took two wickets each, conceding less than six runs an over.

With the bat, it was captain Shai Hope who led their charge with an unbeaten 109, while Romario Shepherd added an invaluable 49 off 28 balls.

The hosts could retain the same team unless they would like to bring in all-rounder Roston Chase to bolster their spin stocks.

England Form

England needed a boost after their disastrous World Cup performance but were still below-par in Antigua. They didn’t live up to the billing in any department in the first ODI.

Harry Brook led their batting charts with 71 off 72, while there were four players with at least 30. Had at least one batter put in a big score, they would have posted more than 325.

Bowling lacked teeth as England didn’t have a cutting edge in that department. The spinners Rehan Ahmed and Liam Livingstone did well to combine for 20 overs conceding only 90 runs while taking three wickets, but that’s the only solace factor with the ball for England.

England could bring in Matthew Potts in place of Brydon Carse, if they look for some effectiveness with the ball. John Turner could be an option if they want to rest Curran.

West Indies v England - 2nd ODI

England were supposed to start well in the series but couldn’t live up to the task as the Windies won comfortably in the end. I backed England to bounce back leaving the World Cup baggage at home, but now they would have extra baggage of the first match loss. The Windies will have some momentum and could edge the visitors once again. I am also backing Hope to end up as the best home batter.
