With the ODI series in the bag, India will look to make the T20Is count as the five-match series against West Indies starts on Thursday. The first game will be played at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad starting from 8pm IST.

The visitors used the ODI series to experiment with their squad and this T20I series could be no different. Both teams will however use this to kickstart their preparations for the 2024 T20I World Cup. The home team’s hard hitters will have a go with their full might and that puts them in pole position to score more sixes. I am backing the Windies to score the most sixes of the match.

This is a format that the Windies are supposed to be leaders, but they have been below par for some time. The last time they played T20Is was against South Africa and they won the away series 2-1.

In the ODI series too, there have been glimpses of what they could do with the bat. Shai Hope gives way to Rovman Powell as the captain and there are some exciting CPL names to choose from.

After missing the ODI series, the likes of Jason Holder and Nicholas Pooran get back into the squad boosting Windies’ morale.

Nicholas Pooran, Johnson Charles, Rovman Powell and the likes are likely to get a nod with Obed McCoy and Oshane Thomas likely to fancy a team place.

India Form

It was India’s experimentation that caught the eye in the ODI series preceding these matches. Yet, they won that series 2-1 with Ishan Kishan slamming three 50s in three games.

With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli rested for the T20Is, the visitors have another less experienced squad here. That said, most players are IPL regulars and will feel ready for the task.

Hardik Pandya will lead the side as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, and Mukesh Kumar fancy their chances of getting a maiden cap.

India are likely to give a couple of debuts while the tussle for ‘keeping slot is going to continue with both Ishan and Sanju Samson fancying a hit.

West Indies v India - 1st Twenty20 Match

West Indies may enjoy this format and are likely to be very strong on paper. Their recent results are slightly encouraging especially the win in South Africa. Yet, we are steering clear of backing them. Instead, I dip into the sixes market and backing the hosts to score the most 6s of the match. Keep an eye on Suryakumar Yadav and Johson Charles who may end up leading the batting charts for their sides.
