India are a bit weakened in their pace department but the presence of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja still gives them an edge. They have had a stranglehold over West Indies in recent times and that may continue here with another win. For the exotics, dip into the individual market and back Kemar Roach to take at least four wickets.

Head to Head
There have been 98 Tests between the West Indies and India so far with the home team winning 22 and losing 30 with the remaining 46 ending as draws. Interestingly, the West Indies haven’t won against India across their last 24 Tests, losing 15 and drawing nine.
West Indies Form
West Indies finished 8th in the two WTC cycles, so there is a lot to improve for the home team. The last time they played in this format was against South Africa in March 2023 when they lost the two-Test series 2-0 away from home.
The home fans can take comfort from their recent form at home, having won three and drawn two since their last defeat to Pakistan in 2021. Yet, Kraigg Brathwaite’s side has a lot riding on this series.
Two uncapped batters Kirk McKenzie and Alick Athanaze have been called up, but it is the absence of left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie that could hurt them.
West Indies Team News
Rahkeem Cornwall has been recalled after two years and could slot straight into the playing XI. Alick Althanaze could be up for a debut.
India Form
India are looking for a fresh start to their WTC cycle, having finished as beaten finalists on both previous occasions. They have been defeated by Australia in the final at the Oval last time out.
Captain Rohit Sharma will have to start with selecting his new one-down as Cheteshwar Pujara has been dropped. In all probability, it could be the left-hander Yashasvi Jaiswal who may get the nod.
The visitors are also without pacer Mohammed Shami with the likes of Mukesh Kumar, Navdeep Saini and Jaydev Unadkat looking to impress and settle their spots.
India Team News
Apart from Jaiswal, India could also hand a debut to wicket ‘keeper Ishan Kishan while Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj and Jaydev Unadkat could be the pacers.
