After an excellent show with the ball in the first match, West Indies will be gearing up for another surprise when they play India in the second T20I. This will be played at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Sunday.

It was an exciting match to herald the series and the Windies will be on a high coming to Guyana. Yet, they know they can’t take India lightly and the visitors remain favourites in the odds market. Although there’s a temptation to back India on the win count, I am playing safe and backing Suryakumar Yadav to score at least 32 runs.
- West Indies have stuck the most 6s in 3 of their last 4 matches (T20Is)
- India have conceded the most 6s of the match in 4 of their last 8 matches (T20Is)
- Suryakumar Yadav has scored at least 24 in 5 of his last 6 matches (T20Is)
- Nicholas Pooran has scored 73 and 74 in his last two matches at this venue (All Matches)
Head to Head
West Indies have played India in 26 T20Is so far, winning eight, losing 17 and one ending with no result. Playing at home, the record is even-stevens with four wins for the Windies in eight matches.
West Indies Form
The Windies proved that they can’t be written off easily in the T20Is and that their 2-1 win over South Africa wasn’t a flash in the pan. The four-run win in the first match was as much a collective effort as it can get for the home team.
Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell scored 40s each as the score of 149 proved to be just enough in the end. They would want more runs from their T20 experts Johnson Charles and Shimron Hetmyer though.
Obed McCoy combined with Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd to take two wickets, as they successfully derailed the chase. It would be interesting though, to see who makes way as the Windies may opt for an extra spinner.
West Indies Team News
Alzarri Joseph may be the one to miss out as West Indies are likely to add Roston Chase as an additional spinner in their ranks.
India Form
India’s mix of IPL specialists couldn’t complete the work and they fell short in the chase, which at one point looked to be in their hands. Tilak Varma’s sparkling debut of 39 from 22 balls was the highlight but the rest of the batters fell flat.
Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill couldn’t get out of the blocks as the chase never got going beyond the middle overs. The visitors could still be looking at the likes of Sanju Samson and Axar Patel who probably batted too low.
There were no qualms about the bowling though, as Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal led their attack with two wickets each.
India Team News
Yashasvi Jaiswal could fancy a go for India, with Ishan Kishan’s spot at risk. There may be a temptation to unleash Ravi Bishnoi, but that could mean benching Mukesh Kumar and leaving Axar Patel out to keep both Kishan and Jaiswal.

Verdict
West Indies will be confident after a complete performance in the first match, although it wasn’t a dominating one. India will likely pin their hopes on Suryakumar Yadav and I am putting my money on him scoring some runs. Keep an eye out on Nicholas Pooran, who may end up leading the batting charts for the hosts.
