India proved to be stronger in all departments in the first Test as the Windies proved to be no match. The visitors once again hold all the cards and although the odds are very low, conservative bettors can back them on the win market. Keep an eye on Ravichandran Ashwin who loves these conditions and could prove to be the best bowler of the match once again.
- In 10 of their last 11 matches, Windies openers averaged 17.8 runs (Tests)
- West Indies have lost 5 of their last 7 matches, winning just one (Tests)

Head to Head
There have been 99 Tests between the West Indies and India so far with the home team winning 22 and losing 31 with the remaining 46 ending as draws. The West Indies haven’t won against India across their last 25 Tests now, losing 16 and drawing nine.
West Indies Form
It was business as usual for the Windies, who couldn’t rise up to the demands of Test cricket once again. The first Test in Dominica saw them aggregate 280 runs over the two innings while the Indian openers nearly scored those many in one knock.
Once again the onus of improving the batting fortunes will fall on captain Kraigg Brathwaite who scored 20 & 7 in the first match. Alick Athanaze looked solid on his debut, top-scoring in both innings.
The bowling was equally listless with the team taking just five wickets spread over 152 overs. It didn’t help matters that off-spinner Rahkeem Cornwall was injured midway.
West Indies Team News
Raymon Reifer has been dropped which means there could be a debut for Kirk McKenzie. Shannon Gabriel could slot back in, to replace Jomel Warrican while Cornwall’s fitness issues could see Kevin Sinclair walk into the team.
India Form
India brushed off any concerns of rustiness, clinically dispatching the Windies in the first match. Indeed, it was a performance worthy of note as they checked almost all boxes.
Debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal sparkled with a player-of-the match winning performance of 171. Captain Rohit Sharma hit a century (103) too, while Virat Kohli would have been unhappy at missing out on a milestone.
It was all about Ravichandran Ashwin with the ball as the wily off-spinner took five and seven wickets in the two innings. He could once again be the key, although the pitch here is likely to be more pacer-friendly than the first Test.
India Team News
It is unlikely that India are going to make any changes to their batting unit. The only question could be around giving a game for Navdeep Saini whose hit-the-deck bowling could suit this pitch.
