The Manuka Oval will feature Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat in the Knockout to determine who moves to the Challenger and who goes home. This match on Sunday will see the winner playing the loser of the qualifier on Thursday for a place in the grand finale.

The Thunder have finished the regular season in third place to earn a chance to play this fixture. The Heat, on the other hand, had to come through the Eliminator where they overpowered Adelaide Strikers.

Sydney Thunder Form

The Thunder finished third thanks to a last day win over the Strikers, but had an indifferent end to the season losing four of their last six matches. They will hope that the presence of Alex Hales (535 runs) at the top is boosting enough to overpower that poor run.

Tanveer Sangha (21 wickets) has been the standout bowler for the Thunder, but keep an eye on Brendan Doggett (four matches, eight wickets, ER 5.73) who ended as their best bowler in back-to-back matches.

Sydney Thunder News

Daniel Sams has recovered from his hand injury and is available for selection meaning the Thunder have a full squad to choose from.

Brisbane Heat Form

A six-wicket win against the Strikers in the Eliminator meant the Heat have won three games in a row. Chris Lynn (426 runs) has picked up momentum in the later stages of the campaign, while Jimmy Peirson (266) continues to be a saviour in tough situations.

Marnus Labuschagne (129 runs, 9 wickets) has surprised everyone by ending as the Heat’s best bowler in three of his four matches. Mark Steketee (22 wickets) still remain their strong pick to end among the wickets.

Brisbane Heat News

The Heat have the same squad from the previous match.

Sydney Thunder vs Brisbane Heat Head-to-Head

The Heat have a 9-3 win-loss record against the Thunder although the sides have shared the results this season. The Thunder won the first encounter by four wickets at this venue, while the Heat bounced back with a five-wicket win at the Gabba.

Sydney Thunder vs Brisbane Heat Match Up

The Thunder’s recent form has been a bit indifferent, while the Heat have seen theirs surge. The teams had a close affair at this venue where the Thunder needed a late-order batting performance win the honours. Both teams have been over-dependent on specific individuals – Lynn for the Heat and Hales for the Thunder.

Sydney Thunder vs Brisbane Heat Stats

  • Sydney Thunder have hit the most 6s in their last two matches against Brisbane Heat.
  • Brisbane Heat have won 7 of their last 10 matches including the last three.
  • Brisbane Heat have scored more in the Power play than Sydney Thunder in their last seven H2Hs excluding the abandoned matches.
  • Chris Lynn has 566 runs in 13 matches vs Sydney Thunder with six 50+ scores.
  • Marnus Labuschagne has been Brisbane Heat’s best bowler in three of the four matches he played.

Prediction

The Heat will fancy their chances of continuing the winning momentum having won three games in a row. The Thunder have lost a bit of that winning streak in the last matches of the regular season. However, the form of Alex Hales and Daniel Sams will be a big factor for the Thunder. Keep an eye on Marnus Labuschagne who has been a revelation with the ball in the four matches he played. The Thunder’s six-hitting strength will also be a key factor in this match.
