By finishing top two in the Big Bash League (BBL) standings, Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers get a double chance to make it to the final. The first of those will be at the Manuka Oval on Saturday with the winner earning a home BBL final.

The two teams are stacked closely together and have won a game each in this campaign. When they met earlier this season at this venue, the Sixers ended up winning by seven wickets.

Sydney Sixers Form

The Sixers topped the league phase with nine wins out of 14, but have a 4-3 record in their last seven. Josh Philippe (454 runs, SR 149.34) has been a massive influence with the bat and will once again be their best bet. That included a match-winning 84 at this venue against the Scorchers this season.

Ben Dwarshuis (19 wickets) leads the bowling pack which has a surprise package in Carlos Brathwaite (15). It will be Dan Christian (252 runs, 13 wickets), though, who could be crucial with his experience of global T20 leagues and knockouts.

Sydney Sixers News

The Sixers have retained the same squad and have no injury worries.

Perth Scorchers Form

Although losing their last league match, the Scorchers have won eight of their last ten to be the ‘in form’ team for the finals. Colin Munro (411 runs, SR 129.65) had four 50+ scores and two more 40+ scores to be their leading bat.

Bowling has been all about the red-hot Jhye Richardson (27 wickets, ER 6.69) who has been their best bowler in five of the last 11 matches. Andrew Tye (17) is picking his form up at the right time and should be a great asset.

Perth Scorchers News

The Scorchers have announced an unchanged squad for this match.

Sydney Sixers vs Perth Scorchers Head-to-Head

The Scorchers have an 11-7 win-loss record against the Sixers, but it is the Magenta outfit that had an upper hand in recent games. They have won four of the last six including three of the last four. That includes a win this campaign at this very same venue. The overall H2H record at the Manuka Oval, though, stands at 1-1.

Sydney Sixers vs Perth Scorchers Match Up

These two have been among the top-three best batting units which means this qualifier is set for an intriguing battle. The Scorchers have an edge in the bowling, though, with their unit the best in the league. The Scorchers have topped every possible bowling stat in the overall as well as powerplay stats – conceding the least number of runs, taking the most number of wickets, and conceding fewer sixes per match.

Sydney Sixers vs Perth Scorchers Stats

  • Nine of the last 12 matches between Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers have been won by the chasing side.
  • Sydney Sixers have won 4 of the last 6 matches against Perth Scorchers.
  • The home team of the day has won 10 of the last 12 matches between Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers.
  • Moises Henriques is the highest individual scorer in H2Hs with 341 runs.

Prediction

The Scorchers will hope that their bowling will come good to lead them to a home final. Although both sides will get another chance even in case of a defeat, neither would be keen to miss this first opportunity. The Scorchers could end up with the best power play score and the highest number of sixes purely because of their bowling strength.
