East Bengal jumped up to ninth spot with a 2-1 defeat of Jamshedpur on Sunday. The win, a third of the season, kept slim finals hopes alive for SCEB.
Matti Steinmann and Anthony Pikington gave East Bengal a 2-0 lead before Peter Hartley scored a late consolation for Jamshedpur.
The victory ended a five-game winless run which had seen East Bengal lose 1-0 to leaders Mumbai City and 2-0 to Bengaluru.
They had also drawn 1-1 with Kerala Blasters and Goa and 0-0 with Chennaiyin.
With four games of the regular season remaining, East Bengal are seven points adrift of Hyderabad in fourth.
