Jamshedpur and Chennaiyin conclude the opening round of matches in the new Indian Super League season when they meet at Tilak Maidan Stadium in Vasco da Gama on Tuesday. Chennaiyin were runners-up last season, losing the ISL final to ATK, while Jamshedpur finished in eighth spot.

Jamshedpur Form

Jamshedpur were disappointing last season, winning four of their 18 games en route to finishing in eighth spot. After a solid start, Jamshedpur won just one of their last 13 games.

It was in defence that Jamshedpur had their biggest problems. They conceded the second most of any ISL side with five of the 35 goals leaked coming in the final game of the season, a 5-0 defeat to Goa.

Firming up the Jamshedpur defence will have been new coach Owen Coyle's biggest task since being named as successor to Antonio Iriondo.

Jamshedpur Team News

Two of last season's overseas imports remain with Spanish midfielder Aitor Monroy and forward David Grande still part of the Jamshedpur squad.

Memo, Noé Acosta, Sergio Castel, Piti and Tiri have all departed. They have been replaced by English defender Peter Hartley, Nigerian centre-back Stephen Eze, Brazilian midfielder Alex Monteiro and Australian winger Nick Fitzgerald.

Lithuanian forward Nerijus Valskis has joined from Chennaiyin.

Chennaiyin Form

Not even a run to the final of last season's Indian Super League could save Owen Coyle from the sack. He has been replaced Csaba Lazlo at the helm at Chennaiyin.

Having finished the regular season in fourth place, Chennaiyin were 6-5 aggregate winners of a topsy-turvy semi-final with Goa. They won 4-1 in the first leg and lost 4-2 in the second leg.

But they were denied a third ISL title when losing the final 3-1 to ATK Mogun Bagan. Trailing 2-0, Nerijus Valskis handed Chennaiyin hope but it wasn't to be.

Chennaiyin Team News

Chennaiyin allowed Nerijus Valskis to leave at the end of last season to join Jemshedpur, but Brazilian utility man Memo headed in the opposite direction. Fellow Brazilians Eli Sabia and Rafael Crivellaro remain with the club for another season.

Masih Saighani, Andre Schembri, Dragoș Firțulescu and Lucian Goian have left. The overseas incomings include Bosnian centre-back Enes Sipovic, Tajikistan winger Fatkhullo Fatkhuloev and Guinea-Bissau forward Esmael Goncalves and Slovakia striker Jakub Sylvestr.

Jamshedpur vs Chennaiyin Head to Head

Chennaiyin lead the head-to-head 2-1 with three draws in the six meetings between the sides. Last season, the sides drew 1-1 in this fixture before Chennaiyin won 4-1 at home. Nerijus Valskis scored twice in that win.
