NorthEast United and Mumbai City begin their Indian Super League seasons with a clash at Tilak Maidan Stadium in Vasco de Gama in Goa on Saturday. Both sides missed out on the play-offs last season and will be seeking better in the 2020/21 campaign.

NorthEast United Form

NorthEast United finished ninth of the 10 teams in the ISL last season. They started with a six-game unbeaten run, but won just two games all season and failed to win any of their last 14 games of the campaign.

That run included eight defeats and six draws, while they signed off a disappointing season with a 2-2 stalemate with eventual Indian Super League runners-up Channaiyin.

Coach Robert Jani was sacked before the final three games, and has since been replaced by Spaniard Gerard Nus.

The new faces for 2020/21 include Australian defender Dylan Fox, Belgian defender Benjamin Lambot, Mauritania midfielder Khassa Camara, Portuguese winger Luis Machado, Ghanaian striker Kwesi Appiah and Guinea forward Idrissa Sylla.

Mumbai City Form

Mumbai City missed out on the play-offs last season by three points as they finished fifth in the ISL standings.

Defeats in the final two games of the season cost Mumbai dearly. They lost 5-2 to league champions Goa before losing 1-0 to fourth placed Chennaiyin after having Sourav Das sent off.

Spanish coach Sergio Lobera has been appointed in place of Jorge Costa and has been charged with taking Mumbai to the play-offs this season.
