Brisbane Heat will hope to move above Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League 2020-21 standings when the sides meet in match #32 at the Metricon Stadium in Queensland.

The Heat have three wins and four losses from their seven matches giving them 12 points. They are sixth in the standings although a win for Perth Scorchers on Wednesday could push them down. The Stars have three wins and losses each from their seven matches to go with one ‘no result’. That gives them 15 points and fifth place in the points tally.

Brisbane Heat Form

After starting the season with three losses, the Heat have picked up steam with three wins in four matches. Even the lone loss they had was against the Hobart Hurricanes by one run after Mark Steketee was run out on the last ball.

Jimmy Peirson (153 runs, SR 128.57) is enjoying his stand-in captaincy, while Chris Lynn could slot in as an X-Factor Sub. Joe Denly and Joe Burns’ arrivals have improved their batting. With the ball, the improved form of Mujeeb Ur Rahman (11 wickets, ER 6.20) is a big positive while Mark Steketee (12 wickets, ER 8.36) continues to be a surprise package.

Brisbane Heat News

Chris Lynn’s fitness will be monitored once again to see if he can be given a full game. If otherwise, the Heat batter could once again come in as an X-Factor Sub.

Melbourne Stars Form

The Stars snapped their three-match losing run by defeating Hobart Hurricanes by ten runs. Marcus Stoinis’ return to form with a masterclass 97* was the best news to come out of that match. The Stars would want their import Nicholas Pooran (111 runs, SR 158.57) to get a bit more consistency to his game.

Adam Zampa’s efficiency (eight wickets, ER 7.90) is a gamechanger with the ball, while Billy Stanlake (9) and Liam Hatcher (10) have been among the wickets too.

Melbourne Stars News

Nic Maddinson’s injury will be monitored and that could mean another game for ‘keeper Seb Gotch. Replacement player Sam Rainbird has been an excellent addition and should keep his place.

Brisbane Heat vs Melbourne Stars Head-to-Head

Brisbane Heat have an 8-5 win-loss record against Melbourne Stars with alternating results in the last six matches.
When the teams met earlier in the season, the Stars won by six wickets at the Manuka Oval. Nathan Coulter-Nile’s 4/10 blew the Heat for just 125, which was chased in 17.1 overs by the Stars riding on a pair of 46s by Hilton Cartwright and Glenn Maxwell.

Brisbane Heat vs Melbourne Stars Match Up

Both sides have excellent boundary hitters when in form, who can clear any boundary with ease. The Heat have looked a different team in the last four matches and will look to make the most of their strong form. The Stars will hope for more runs for Pooran and ease the pressure on Maxwell-Stoinis duo.

Brisbane Heat vs Melbourne Stars Stats

  • Brisbane Heat have won 5 of 7 matches against Melbourne Stars batting first.
  • The team batting first has lost 6 of the last 7 matches between Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars.
  • Brisbane Heat have hit the most 6s of the match in 3 of their last 5 matches against Melbourne Stars.
  • Joe Burns has 137 runs against Melbourne Stars in four matches at an average of 68.50.

Prediction

Brisbane Heat have picked up steam in their last four matches and look a different side now than the one faced by Melbourne Stars earlier this season. Joe Burns and Joe Denly have added solidity to the side and they will fancy their chances against an inconsistent Stars team.
